The original farmhouse dates to the late 1800’s and history is tangible and in evidence.

The Kevacy Farm is part of Verlfiesfontein Farm which is referenced in Beneath the Mushroom Rock by Peter Howard.

It is assumed that the Liddell family sailed from England in 1861.  In 1867 the Liddell family journey  by ox-wagon from York in KZN to the Free State.  One of  their daughters, Alice, married Joseph Lyon and they were residents on Verliesfontein.  Their original homestead built in 1883 was sadly destroyed during Boer War between 1899 and 1902.  A new homestead was built (the current Kevacy Lodge)  and the original homestead sandstone block dated 1883 is on view.

Several ruins from that error can be seen on the farm.
